Hallelujah, I got an invitation to interview with the place I had a screening interview with last week!

Didn't think I'd get called back since the screening interview was super awkward. Now I need to prepare for the "real" interview and figure out an outfit! Gah!
In case it gets awkward again you could always go with "oh, look at this cute kitten!" (holds forth Pixel).
In case it gets super awkward, you could potentially resort to handing over both Pixel and Sprite. But I say you reserve that option for only really serious situations.
@lemonad: Heh, thanks for the pep talk. :) Actually, just as quickly as my hopes were raised by getting a call back, my hopes are now rather low. I talked with a friend of mine who works there, and apparently one of the people on the phone screening call approached my friend to get more information about me. And it seems that the interviewer doesn't really think that I'm a good fit for what they're looking for, so I'm not exactly sure why I'm being called in to begin with. Perhaps they're bringing me in in case I surprise them with my mad skillz, though I doubt that I will. They have some specific things in mind for the job that I don't think I'm very good at, so I'm not sure this will end with me getting an offer.
I've decided to just go and use it as a practice run for other interviews that I hope I get in the near future. :P
@topgold: Yeah, that's like what the hubby said. He mentioned that even though one of the interviewers doesn't think I'm the right fit, it's possible that other interviewers would disagree (though I doubt it) and override his opinion. And perhaps I could spin my skills toward a different job in the company that would be a better match...
I just am feeling rather disheartened by the revelation right now, on top of the news from another friend of mine who said I wouldn't be getting called in for an interview at my old company (the first place I worked out of college, Motorola). I thought for sure I'd have some kind of an "in" there since I worked in that department doing the job I applied for.
I applied to a different job at Mot in a different department, but in the same division, so it's possible I could get called for an interview for that job, but I don't know. Things are looking blah again. :(

And I'll never get so desperate that I'll give them my kitties! :P

Not give! Just to hold for a short while until the awkwardness passes :)
Too bad it doesn't look too promising... but then again, as you say, use it as a practice run for future interviews.

if you're meeting a panel, you've got every expectation of impressing people who often read candidates different on paper.
