I didn't end up going in the morning. I actually took a half-day
today so that I could help my brother ship his car out to CA (he's
leaving IL tomorrow). And since my license expired on my birthday
last week, I thought since I took a half-day that I could squeeze
in a visit to the driver's license place (we actually call it the
Secretary of State's office, too) as well. But I figured we'd get
delayed too much in the morning if I stopped to do that, so I
skipped it.
I might try going during my lunch hour this week, or just suck
it up and try going on Saturday morning. What a PITA.
I've got a Kindle to occupy me! That or a bunch of podcasts on
my iPod. :D
I'm hoping that maybe, if I can take an overly long lunch one of
these weekdays (maybe tomorrow?), it will be infinitely faster than
going on a Saturday. But then again, it'll be a Saturday after 4th
of July, so perhaps many people will be sleeping in? Who
knows...
I just got it late last week, so I haven't had a chance to
really put it through its paces, but my first impression is that it
is pretty sweet. We have a Sony Reader, so I'm not that new to
e-ink e-book readers. But all of the fawning I hear about the
Kindle from the MacBreak Weekly hosts really made me want to try
one out. The hubby surprised me with the Kindle for my b-day.
:)
The page-turning buttons on the left and right sides are pretty
annoyingly placed, but as long as I remember to hold the Kindle by
the keyboard area, it's alright. The built-in wireless feature is
really awesome. I have plenty of content on the Kindle right now,
and I haven't hooked it up to my computer yet. Browsing on it is
rather tedious, of course, but handy for reading Google Reader in a
pinch, or downloading e-books straight to the Kindle. The wireless
feature combined with the Kindle Store is really the killer
feature. I've only bought a couple books from the Kindle Store, and
downloaded several book samples (another cool feature of the Kindle
Store). And I've downloaded a few free e-books from Manybooks.net.
Haven't tried Feedbooks.com yet, though it was highly recommended
by Merlin Mann and Andy Ihnatko on MacBreak Weekly.
I also subscribed to the free Amazon Kindle Blog, and it gets
updated wirelessly without intervention. Cool feature. I wish they
didn't charge for other blog subscriptions. I feel that's a mistake
on their part.
I'll probably put together a better review when I've had more
time with it, but that's what I think of it so far. :)

We call it the Secretary of State here in Michigan. I have never seen a DMV before. I assume the lines will be long. Take a number!

Saturday morning at the DMV? Bring a book to read while you wait.

Is the Kindle as awesome as it seems?

Nice. :) I really wanted a Kindle but as far as I know you still can't get one in the UK. :(

Thanks for the mini-review. Nice surprise from your hubby too.
