There was a half decent one where the guy stranded ended up
making a huge refridgeration plant for the natives - Harrison Ford
i think. This isn't a genre i'm too familiar with
Cool, @JavaDog. :) Hmm,
besides LOTR (which honestly I didn't really like; more of a sci-fi
fan, not fantasy most of the time), I haven't seen any of those
movies! Ooops...
It's hard to think of what older movies might make the cut...
But I think three movies already have their places -- When Harry
Met Sally, The Matrix, and Office Space. No supposed "classics", as
many movie buffs would classify, but I love these movies. Two to
go...
My five films would be all the Star Wars except Episode I :) Or
if I was to choose different films it would be The Crow, Aliens,
Evolution, Tremors and
Fifth Element over The Matrix? I protest. I love The Fifth
Element, but I don't think it was as good a movie (and as different
and as influential) as The Matrix.
As a movie yes the first Matrix is better than Fifth Element.
But if i was to be stuck on a desert island I would get bored of
watching Matrix over and over again but I never tire of Fifth
Element, thats what I based my choices on.
Hmm...always hard when there are so few choices. So, off the top
of my head - Pulp Fiction, Gangs of New York, Pirates of the
Caribbean (have to have my Johnny Depp ogling time!), Blade Runner
and yeah, I'll go with The Blues Brothers too.
on a real deserted island? robinson crusoe, the documentary
version, where they tell you how to survive ;) but if it is not
that serious, then i would take spaceballs or rocky horror picture
show for the fun and entertainment ;)
I wasn't choosing The Fifth Element over The Matrix.
The Matrix was/is awesome... but I chose the films I'd want on a
desert island.
Blues Brothers always makes me laugh. Jurassic Park
ignites that spark of wonder. Fight Club is a modern classic. The
Untouchables is simply amazing and The Fifth Element? I just think
it is so visually sumptuous.
An amazing film to look at. As I said, I didn't choose it
over The Matrix per se, I'd just prefer to take it to a
desert island...
@whatleydude: I was
commenting on steves71's reply that he wanted to change his pick of
The Matrix to The Fifth Element. :) And I guess I can see that
Fifth Element could have more replay value than The Matrix. I
concede the point.
@yoggel: Heh, I think
someone else in this thread said something similar about watching
films to help you get off the island... I guess watching Lost would
not be appropriate in this case... *chuckle*
@chibbigirl: HA! I
like Legally Blonde, but I wouldn't choose it as one of the 5. :)
In the same vein, Clueless is a fun movie, but I wouldn't make it a
"desert island" pick.
@jezlyn i just hope you
know that i said Legally Blonde..in reference to the actual
episode!! and if you did already know that...then disregard this
comment. it will self-destruct in 5...4....3....2....1

Oh, oops! The question is "what 5 movies would you watch if you were on a deserted island?" Sorry about the vague wording. :)
1 month, 3 weeks ago by jezlyn.
@barneyc The Mosquito Coast (1986), http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091557/.
@jezlyn: LOTR (do I get to do trilogies?), Casablanca, The Dirth Dozen, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Uncle Buck.

Spaceballs, any Bond movie with Sean Connery, and the 1st Martix movie

Man, I haven't seen Spaceballs in quite a long time...

Yeah.. if I had to pick "favorite sleepers", I would do Office Space, Napoleon Dynomite, and maybe Harold & Kumar go to White Castle.
Speaking of "Spaceballs", "Blazing Saddles" would be there also.
Dark City also.

oops missed the last one off, The Matrix

The Untouchables, Fight Club, The Blues Brothers, Fifth Element and... Jurrasic Park.
And that's just off the top of my head without actually thinking too much about it. :)

I forgot all about Fifth Element, Id swap that for the matrix, i was struggling for my last choice.

In alpha order: Casablanca, Dark City, Spartacus, and Thunderball.
Hmm, one last one...
Am I on the island by myself?
Then maybe "Chiquitas Calientes 4" for those... er... lonely times.
Otherwise, maybe "Blame it on Rio" to remind me of better days, and for young Demi Moore... *sigh*....

I love questions like this. Anyway, here I go ... Lawrence of Arabia, Raging Bull, The Manchurian Candidate, Kill Bill and High Noon

Brilliant thread, quite a few movies I haven't seen yet so will be looking them up. :)
