I read (and enjoy) very broadly, so I'd probably like them :)
(at least, I'm 99% sure I'd like them more than I like
elf-porn).
The hard part for me, will be finding a library in this town
that has them - or getting them in a downloadable format for the
iPhone, so I can read them. I'm kinda off buying books these days,
they just add to clutter.
@malach: Do you really
think you'd have trouble finding the books at a library there?
They're pretty popular all over the world. Or is that why you think
you wouldn't be able to find them?
@zenith: I think they're
worth reading, but YMMV. They're the same "reading level" as Harry
Potter, but wholly different plots/characters. Please don't read
the customer reviews on Amazon; a lot of the negative ones are so
stupid. If you look at the series as a modern fairy tale (as I
think the author intends), I don't think the characters or their
actions will disappoint. A lot of the dumb reviews I've read are
all harping on the, "is this the sending a good message to young
teens?" aspect. It's so stupid. Hello, it's fiction!
Hmmm... Thanks for that link. I'd only found the Melbourne
central library, and was underwhelmed with the range. I may be
seeing an increased amount of reading in my future.
Hehe, yeah you can never pay too much attention to reviews on
Amazon. I wonder sometimes if half of them can even read properly
or have the ability to form at least a semi-original opinion.
:)
@zenith: Yeah, seriously.
Actually a long time ago we happened across a particular reviewer
on Amazon who loved this awful paperback we bought from a used
bookstore (we never finished reading it, it was that awful), and
started seeing reviews from her all over Amazon -- Harriet
Clausner. Have you come across any of her reviews? It's ridiculous.
There was an article about her that I saw that basically clued me
in that perhaps she is a shill reviewer for different publishers.
Not sure about it, but it sure sounds like that's so.

Stupid character limit. The truncated word at the end was supposed to be "Idiots."

Heh... It's the fourth installment of the Twilight Saga, that series that you thought was some kind of elf porn thing. *smirk

Oh, ok. Well, in my defence, it SOUNDS kinda like it could be elf porn!

I'd be curious to see whether you'd like the books. I thought they were great. But they're definitely different from hard sci-fi. :)

I haven't read the first 2 yet, got them lined up on my shelves along with a load of others. Worth reading then? :)

@RickMeasham's post illustrates @malach's point...
Well, you could buy them and then leave them somewhere for someone else to benefit from, a la Bookcrossing. :)
